COMM 421: eP#5 Final Reflection

1. In what ways do you think you improved your professional presence after completing the eP?

The biggest improvement that I wanted to accomplish this semester was creating more content in my course projects. Most of the projects that I have made were mostly from my internship with a market agency: The Meridian Group. I was able to spend 14 weeks with them as a public relations intern. By becoming a public relations intern with them, I was able to work with clients such as STIHL, Hypertherm, Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, and Lago Mar Resort. I was able to work closely with STIHL and Hyperterm, pitching for them to potential clients that could gain use for their products. I was able to network with professionals on the field, emailing them back and forth to gain editorials for the next year. I was able to show what I can do for PRing and I am proud to be able to display that to potential clients in the future.

2. Identify and explain what you like most about your eP.

I am proud to say that I portrayed myself to who I am as a person through the aesthetic of my eportfolio. I like how I was able to use the WIX program and style it how I feel is most appealing to me as a person on a professional and personal level to future employers. The “About Me” page summarizes who I am as a person and want to be able to be transparent with whoever is reading it, to show that I have ambition, passion, and drive.

3. Identify the most challenging aspect of the eP.

I believe the most challenging aspect of the eP was the process of creating and making the finished product of my course projects. The projects that I have worked on take up hours and hours of my time since the beginning of the semester. It took a lot of energy and time to balance my regular classes while taking on an internship. I am proud to say that I can express myself professionally with the content I have learned and created through the agency.

4. What advice would you give future students about the eP?

I would advise students to express themselves through your eP. Include your passions that you do and try to take it to the next level of business. I would recommend students to take on an internship. By doing so, you can show future employers that you can be versatile with your potential career. Create different tabs for each internship you get involved in and be proud of what you have accomplished.

5. What component of this course was most interesting to you?

I would have to say that the videos and films that were shown in class piqued my interest throughout the entire semester. By watching some of the clips in class, I was able to take time out of my day and watch the series. I liked how the films that we watched during class were exact examples of the text and how it relates to conflict. I have not had time or interest to watch television series in general as of late, but the clips that we watched during class, made me look further into it!

6. What did you learn from the Conflict Management Style Analysis or Case Study?

From the conflict management style analysis, I learned how my closest friends and family perceived me on how I deal with conflict and communication. I learned that I am the integrating/collaborating type. When I get myself into a tough conversation, I move with the person to be better and set small goals, instead of being against the other party. I always remain respectful to their point of view and work from there. I try to generate new ideas to the table and would check up to see if what we discussed works.

7. How do you think this course could benefit you in your chosen career?

After I graduate, I want to get into the field of Human Resources. I specifically want to become a human resources specialist. Since I have experience working in an office job in my internship, I have been acquainted with excel and many other software programs. I learned how to work with a team of professionals and be able to work with them remotely on getting the project done. Eventually down the line after becoming a human resources specialist, I want to become and management specialist. By networking with many different types of people, I want to hone my skills from what I have learned from school and my internship and take advantage of my portfolio to show my future employers what I can do.
