COMM 351: eP #4 Reflection

  1. In what ways do you think you have improved your professional presence after completing the COMM 351 ePortfolio?

    1. I believe that working on my problem-solving assignment for eP three has given me more knowledge about human resources management. It gave me an insight that what I am learning in this class, exactly pertains to what I will need to learn for my career field. I plan to go into the human resources field after I graduate from college. I believe that learning interpersonal communication in organizations can help me become more aware when I interact with different kinds of people and how they approach conflict.

  2. Identify and explain what you like most about your ePortfolio.

    1. I am proud of the internship page that I put together in my portfolio. My fall internship with the private marketing agency has given me experience with working with a team and work with my professionalism within organizations. I was able to gain knowledge about public relations. I was able to join in on their big projects and I was able to take over an article post for a Spa and Resort hotel. That was a big accomplishment for me and was available for the public eye to see. During my time with my internship, I was able to gain a portfolio of my work.

  3. Which sample writing/sample course project that you posted to your ePortfolio was your favorite? Why?

    1. The problem-solving paper was interesting to me because I was able to take the foundation of conflict management styles and dissect them. When I was making this paper and finding research for it, I primarily focused on conflict management tactics within organizations. I tried to find reliable research on specifically the conflict styles and how they were used in their case study. In my paper, I tried to find ways how to recognize management styles within an organization. I learned that having diverse management styles is good within a business. Overall, I am pretty happy with my writing sample on conflict management styles and associating it with organizations.

  4. Identify the most challenging aspect of the ePortfolio.

    1. I believe that the most challenging part of building the portfolio is finding the research for the samples of work we had to look for. Researching articles that can help build the paper can be hard to find and collate with your paper. It takes some time to find the right article and that was the most difficult part to find.

  5. What advice would you give to future students about this part of the ePortfolio?

    1. If I can advise any future students, I would say to find the topic that relates to your aspired work environment. For example, I want to be a human resources specialist freelancer. I will have to be able to work with different kinds of people, especially if I freelance in the future. A person who is aspiring to be a freelancer must have prior knowledge and skill to work with different clients. When adding your course projects to your portfolio, try to use the best papers you have made.

  6. How would you describe the intersection of interpersonal and organizational communication to a potential employer?

    1. The intersection of interpersonal and organizational communication requires emotional and ethical skills. It facilitates social interactions with other people as well as ourselves. Interpersonal communication skills are important for creating and maintaining meaningful relationships within an organization. Intrapersonal communication is about oneself and how we talk to ourselves. Both intersect and are important to recognize when communicating in an organization. It creates balance for teamwork within the organization professionally.

  7. How can knowledge of ethical communication help to design an inclusive work environment?

    1. The knowledge of ethical communication within an organization helps bring order to its’ staff members. It provides job satisfaction, security, and safety to the workers. Conflicts happen between co-workers from time to time. Stepping away from the conflict and applying ethical communication can help solve the issue within a workspace. It grants people’s rights and equity to the people and be inclusive of how they feel.

  8. Is your view of communication different than when you began the course? Why or why not?

    1. My view on communication has changed since I began the course. Although I have touched the base or already learned some material taught in this course, I tried to apply it to working in an organization. I realized that communication within a business is based on teamwork with your co-workers. A lot of successful material from an organization is executed smoothly through communication. When I apply this source of material and take action upon my internship experiences, I found it to be more helpful. I grew my professional ability to work with people that are older than me and they saw me as an equal to them despite my age or experience I am in since I am a college student.
