1. In what ways do you think you improved your professional presence after completing the eP?
I improved my professional skills by the way I create my papers from this course. Although the Popular Press Analysis paper was not required to be put on our course projects tab, I felt I was able to express my professional presence and be able to research a topic that I was interested in so much to learn about. I was also able to format and be able to use my outside sources to figure out what kind of professional presence I want to show: passionate, fun, and a go-getter.
2. Identify and explain what you like most about your eP.
What I like most about my eP is the design and aesthetic of the format I made. I believe that my eP definitely represents who I am as a person. I believe it can be presented as professional, yet unique to who I am. I am happy that I was able to express myself and display my work onto a website that everyone can look at. I love the colors and transitions I chose as well as the pictures I presented. The emoticons really express my emotions though my eP, which makes it fun to read!
3. Identify the most challenging aspect of the eP.
The most challenging aspect of my eP is reaching out to businesses and bring in more content to add to my profile. At this time, it is hard to reach out to to businesses through COVID, but I was able to gain one connection through my other class. In the end, I was able to get a letter of recommendation and a possible internship! It was challenging trying to reach out to businesses around the field I wanna get into, but it is nice to gain some recognition through my other class!
4. What advice would you give future students about the eP?
I would advise people to get creative with your eP! Try to make your website as YOU and make it fun and interactive for the people who are viewing your profile. It will really stand out to employers when you have a fresh looking eP, which can help you stand out from the crowd. Also, put as much professional and proud content you do whether it be from school, from work, and from extracurricular activities! That will help you stack up some experience, even if it's not something that is directly correlated to your career field.
5. What component of this course was most interesting to you?
The most interesting topic we covered in nonverbal communication class is surprsurprisithe deception chapter! When we were going over the lecture with the professor, I was able to emotional, physically, and spiritually connect with this lecture. Deception is a tricky section to cover and reveal because it is an everyday issue that we all have to confront with. It is crucial to be able to be aware of such practices so that we can be able to understand people on a deeper level. It brings out the true colors of people and how they feel towards one another. Deception is again, a very tricky subject to cover and can only reveal the truth when you ask the person that you are communicating honestly and with an open-mind.
6. What did you learn from writing the Popular Press Analysis or the Short Film Analysis?
I learned so much from my popular press analysis! I learn to be aware and understand gender eye behaviors from male communication and a female communication. This gives awareness on who the person is and how they behave. I also learned that a reason why people use certain eye behaviors is from a situational standpoint. Sometimes you can't always assume through their eye behavior whether it be truth or not, but also can be a sign of what they are feeling. At the end of the day, the only truth you can get is if the person is truly being honest with their feelings. Gender eye behavior can show you people handle situations and it is interesting how we can idenidentit as common sense, but we all learn about it through school in a professional manner and discover how crucial it is as a life skill to understand nonverbal behaviors!
7. How do you think this course could benefit you in your chosen career?
By being able to understand nonverbal cues and behaviors, I can be able to identify them and be aware of them. This class is such a fun and interesting class to take in my communications major and I can apply these skills to my second major: Human Services. By using what I have learned, I can make deeper connections with people around me and to the people I meet from this day forth. Personally, I love making interpersonal connections with people. It is a never ending passion that I have and will utilize these skills for the rest of my life.
